Head of Compliance and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO)
In her role as Head of Compliance and MLRO she is responsible for ensuring that the highest standards of business conduct and Integrity are applied throughout the activities of BII.
The UK Financial Conduct Authority approved Taiwo to hold the Senior Management Functions of Compliance Oversight (SMF16) and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (SMF17) in 2021.
The Compliance function has four specialist verticals to manage BII’s legal and regulatory obligations in relation to Financial Services, Financial Crime Prevention, Data Protection, and Freedom of Information Act & Environmental Information Regulations.
BII’s report and complaints mechanism provides access to redress for complainants adversely affected by BII’s investments because of breaches of the Business Integrity and Environmental and Social provisions of the Policy of Responsible Investing. These are managed by the independent Information and Complaints office under the compliance function and overseen by the Head of Compliance & MLRO.
In addition to providing firm-wide training and undertaking monitoring and assurance activities on implemented systems and controls in the above areas, the compliance team advise and assists all BII’s business functions in assessing and evaluating regulatory and reputational risks.
Prior to joining BII, Taiwo worked at Barclays Bank Group as a senior financial crime advisor; she has more than 15 years of experience working at Global asset management and investment banking firms, providing advice on Financial Services Regulation, Money Laundering Regulation, Sanctions Laws in relation to transactions in the UK, Africa, South Asia, Middle East, and Latin America.
Taiwo holds an LLB (Hons) and LLM in Banking and Finance Law from Queen Mary (University of London) and completed her legal practice course at the College of Law London. She has completed several professional qualifications, including obtaining a Diploma in Investment Compliance.
