The survey provider conducting the interview with you is the data processor. BII is the data controller for the personal data used for the purposes of analysing the development impact of BII’s investments.

The type of personal data we process

As part of these surveys, the company we have hired to conduct surveys collects and uses the following information: age, gender, socio-economic status, experience of working or interacting with BII investee companies, quality of life and income. The survey company will anonymise any personal data they collect from you before the results are shared with BII.

How we get your personal data and why we have it

Most of the personal information the survey company processes is provided to us directly by you to provide a response to the survey questions asked.

The survey company uses the personal data we receive in order to analyse the development impact of BII’s investments. The survey company will anonymise this data (i.e., remove name, phone number and other personal identifiable information) before sharing it with BII.

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful basis we rely on for processing this information is our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR).

International data transfers

Contact information of the survey respondents might be shared with third party researchers employed by the survey company to conduct the surveys. Once anonymised, the data will be shared by the survey company with BII. This international transfer complies with UK data protection law.

How we store your personal data

The personal data that is collected during the surveys will be anonymised at the end of the project, and neither the survey provider or BII will process your personal data after that time.

Your rights

  • Your right of access – You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.
  • Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete.
  • Your right to erasure – You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances.
  • Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
  • Your right to object to processing – You have the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
  • Your right to data portability – You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.
