Digital financial services for cocoa farmers in Côte d’Ivoire

Advans, a company we’re invested in, has reached thousands of cocoa farmers in Côte d’Ivoire with a programme designed to give them better access to financial services.

The pilot project, which has seen more than 7,000 people subscribe, allows farmers to open digital savings accounts and use cashless payments through mobile phones. During the cocoa harvest between April and May this year, 2,700 accounts were active.

One farmer, N’Goran Koffi Lucien, told Advans:

“With this Advans Account, my money is better kept, I don’t spend money impulsively because I don’t have all the cash on me.”

The company is now looking at scaling the project up and providing additional financial services to meet the farmers’ needs.
