Our vision statement sets out our long-term aspirations on responsible investing.
We work in partnership with our portfolio companies to help them achieve or progress towards positive responsible investing outcomes.
The Policy on Responsible Investing describes our approach to responsible investing issues where we invest, setting out the positive outcomes we seek and the standards we use. It also sets out our risk-based, differentiated and proportionate approach to responsible investing, which we use to prioritise our support and attention to the investments we make.
The Policy is accompanied by a set of related policies, implementation procedures and guidance outlined below – together forming our RI framework.
BII policies providing further information on topics connected to the Policy on Responsible Investing are available below.
The Policy on Responsible Investing should be read in conjunction with How we put the PRI into practice. This document explains how, throughout the life of our investments, BII seeks to support its investees in working towards the RI outcomes set out in the Policy. To do this, we identify the laws, standards and frameworks that apply to each investment and determine the requirements we expect our investees to meet or work towards so that our investment is aligned with the PRI. The Reference list of RI standards and frameworks details the environmental and social (E&S), business integrity (BI) and corporate governance (CG) standards and frameworks that BII most commonly draws upon.
We seek to share and encourage good practice across the industry. We run regular training programmes on responsible investing matters for investors, companies and other interested stakeholders. Our online ESG toolkits provide a free archive of digital resources. They are available below.
We take any complaints or issues relating to our Policy on Responsible Investing very seriously. BII has a dedicated Reporting and Complaints Mechanism which investigates alleged Responsible Investing breaches by BII or our investees, providing external parties with a clear and independent channel to raise concerns.
This mechanism operates under the direction of BII’s Head of Compliance, independent from investment teams, and enables access to remedy where appropriate, ensuring transparency, accountability, and robust oversight.
